Rhyl Youth Marching Band

  1. A Disappointed Jeff

I called a practise on the quad at Rhyl High School last evening (Sunday 17th June)so that we could do some playing on the march which some of us are not very good at. However, again, only the faithful few bothered to turn up. I wonder why I bother to spend my time doing detailed sheets with the times and dates of meetings all marked especially for you if you cannot be bothered to read.
If you'd rather not be a marching band then please say so. We do have a booking for Sunday 1st July which I hope you have all booked in your diaries. I would hate to have to let them down through lack of numbers.

    • Carolyn Who?
Committment is a problem that will always be with organisations like ours but it seems that most of the young people we have coming through may be of a different breed. One can only hope

    • It's a shame to see that even ten years after I joined the band, the same problems are still reoccuring time and time again. Have we not got to the root of this problem yet then?

      Carolyn 25/06/2007

    • The thing is Jeff, its the same old faithfuls that read the website too so i'm afraid your talking to the converted. but I totally agree with what you have said.

  2. Site Update

I've updated the site slightly. The main changes are things that you won't see, but that make things easier to run.

The changes you will see are that the music audio files are now in groups making it easier to find senior and junior band music. You will also find that there are scales and arpeggios for brass, clarinets and flute up to grade 3 in the music section.

  3. Band Awards Winners

It was the Annual General Meeting of the band last night Thurs 10th May. Very poor turnout especially from the band members - I expected better.
    Three awards were presented:
Most improved player - Main band - Simon Armstrong
Most improved player - Juniors - Cai Maitland-Davies.
Bandmasters special award - Richard Sherriff.
As members we have to raise our profile if we expect support from people.

    • Congrats to the winners, all well deserved. Annoyed that I couldn't make it.

*Note to self - Get new job*

    • Well done to those who won prizes. You deserved them. It's like Jeff said though, it was very disappointing that not more members were there to see the winners be awarded their prizes.

  4. New Junior Band Music

There are three new files for Junior Band in the Audio section - Eye Level, and Parade Tunes: Men of Harlech and Pomp Busters (a medley of Dambuster's March and Elgar's Pomp & Circumstance Marches Nos 1 & 4). Right click on each file and choose "Save As..." to save it on your hard drive so that you can play them again and again...

  5. Booking at Dolanog Nursing Home

I recently sent out letters to a couple of local nursing homes offering the band to play for the residents and staff and Dolanog have asked if we can play on Thursday 2nd November 2006 - 6.00pm to 7.00pm
I hope we can do it.

    • Maybe not this time Bethany. We are having to keep the numbers down because of space. But hey, keep on sitting in with the band as much as you can and you'll soon be there
